Ship Sure – Internal staff portal
About the project
V.Group is the world’s leading independent ship management company, and was looking to modernise their internal systems.
The business had expanded, using various back-end systems to manage their fleet of vessels. Ship Sure was a project to build an industry leading internal platform for the 4000+ staff worldwide.
From crewing & finance to purchasing and health and safety and mobile apps for crew and vessel owners, this was a massive project.
I was hired as the Senior UX/UI designer for the Glasgow design team based in Skypark.
The process started by speaking users of the various systems and running discovery workshops with them. We had senior stakeholders from these groups involved too and tried to get a feel for what they all wanted to get out of the new system.
I then worked closely with the project managers to estimate timescales and plan a strategy for design and build. As I was also the lead UI designer, I was responsible for helping to create and build a component library with our in house developers.
This was then used by the full stack development teams in India to build the various features of the platform.
There were many stakeholders across the various parts of the business which this project touched on but my core team looked like this
- UX & UI designer x 1
- Lead front end developer x 1
- Junior designer x 1
- Lead mobile developer x 1
- Project managers x 3
- Senior project manager x 1
- Senior business stakeholder
Out-with this, there were individual project groups for each area around the world, and the satellite development teams in India.
